How can I have the dock centre screen with a keystroke reveal/hide

I have been watching some Nik photo plugin tutorials, in several of them the demonstrator brings their Dock to centre screen and selects the next application during the tutorial.

How can this be achieved? I'm assuming it's brought up with a keystroke chord. Is this a third party app or something else?

I find the dock a real nuisance because when I am editing images I frequently bring the dock out by going too close to the bottom of the screen. I would love to be able to reveal/hide the dock with a keystroke chord or f-key.

I don't know any way of directly manipulating its size. It does adjust automatically depending on the number of open applications - so if you have many open applications the icons appear smaller so they can all fit, and so the hud itself becomes shorter in height.

It should not be of any concern, though, as it is something that does not stay permanently on screen or cover anything.

Thanks for that, it only seems to show open applications, which I suppose is to be expected if it's for switching applications!

Pity, I was hoping for more. It's just as easy to click on a window or drag down and show the dock to switch. What I want is the dock to open/close with a keystroke.

Thanks for your timely replies and interest.
