Some apps have older versions. What you can do is download the app with itunes on a mac or pc. You then go to your iphone app store app. Goto purchases. find the app. download it. You will get an older version of the app, if it exists. Don't know if there is anyway of finding out if there is an older version. I guess you could look through the version history of the app.

I have a iPhone 4 with IOS version 7.1.2 . This iphone I connect to itunes but it is not possible to upgrade to a newer version , since the equipment is old and gray. However, I get apps that I have downloaded and try to do get the message saying "Unable to Download Application requires iOS 8.0 or later . " . What I see is that neither let me download a new version of iOS and therefore no App Store .
