Q: Can't sign out of Apple ID because it isn't an email address - now what?

I have been trying to update my iPad, but it won't let me until it restores an old AppleID account that no longer functions. Somehow I got an ID that isn't an email address back when it was first starting and can't remember that password now. How can I get rid of it and all references to it on my iPad?

iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi + Cellular, iOS 9.2

Nope - that link requires the AppleID to be an email address. This one is just my name and the email it was associated with no longer exists.

You will have to call Apple Support for a legacy Apple ID issue.
