Q: My imovie causes my macbook to restart every time i try to export.

I have macbook pro retina, 2015. Processor: 3.1 GHz, Intel Core i7. Memory: 16 GB.
Ive been using iMovie for a while and this is the first time i've encountered this problem, before restarting, it would freeze for a few seconds. I cant delete/ reinstall iMovie as I have projects that I need to upload.
Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

Deleting and reinstalling iMovie application will not affect any of your projects and events in your library.  Maybe worth a try.   Whether it will help depends on the cause of the problem.  If it works OK if you log in to your mac as a guest then it suggests the problem is due to the configuration of your user account.

I deleted it but now its asking me to pay in order to reinstall. Also it does the same thing on the guest account, does this mean its a hardware issue?

" it does the same thing on the guest account".   You could deleting the iMovie preferences file, but it looks like the problem might be with iMovie.  Does the restart happen for any share or only when trying to share a particular project?  If the latter, it could be due to some particular problem with the project but the worst that would normally happen is the iMovie crashes and not the whole computer.

For re-downloading make sure you are logged in at the App Store with the same Apple ID as was used to set up the computer when it was new.  iMovie should appear under the "Purchases" tab.  It could be hidden for solving this see;  Hide and unhide purchases in the Mac App Store - Apple Support

Whenever I try to share any project, my macbook will restart after a few seconds. I am currently reinstalling iMovie (it was hidden), hopefully that will work, thank you so much for your help!
