iPhone device name has numeral appended

I remember years ago that some times after a single device connected to a Mac, Network Settings would add a numeral to the end of the device name: iPhone-2. iPhone-3, etc.. The name could be reset by opening up terminal and deleting some files using the networksettings command.

This has happened to my iPhone. When I look a the name on devices that are connected to my WiFi network using Airport Utiltiy it shows up as "iPhone-3". Looking at the name in iTunes or in the iPhone itself it's just plane "iPhone". How can this internal name be be reset so it shows up named properly in connected devices?
