Other workaround is to download an app like OneDrive or Google Drive and upload the pictures directly from your iPhone -
That way you avoid having to text or email them one at a time
Google drive gives 15 GB for free for starters

Why do I have to download OneDrive or GoogleDrive to successfully transfer my photos? I don't have this issue on my work computer. Is there a setting or something that is causing this?

Also it would be preferable to take the phone into Apple to get the serial number issue checked out
