Magic Trackpad & Magic Keyboard 2 - Pairing

I seem to keep losing the pairing of my trackpad and keyboard 2. I brought these with a new 27 inch iMac (this month) and keep having connection problems with these 2 devices.

It might be related to the system going to sleep, but haven't pinned it down yet. If I plug them in with a thunderbolt cable and reboot the system they seem to come back again. I think something on the power saver/sleep side is then knocking them off. When they go, the bluetooth icon is also unavailable (gone completely) in settings?

Any help much appreciated......else I'll be looking for my refund!

Howdy Gobi-1,

It sounds like your bluetooth devices are disconnecting intermittently for some reason. I was thinking first to check for things that may be interfering with the signal and causing the dropouts to happen.

If this is not the case, then I would next reset your PRAM:

How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac

Resetting NVRAM

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R.
  3. Turn on your Mac.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys immediately after you hear the startup sound.
  5. Hold these keys until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for a second time.
  6. Release the keys.

After resetting NVRAM, you may need to reconfigure settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information.

Test out the connection again. If it persists then I would next reset the SMC:
