ftp os/x mount read and write

OS/X can mount an ftp file system as if it was a network drive.

It works well.

However, it is read-only.

I've tried some packages, like MacFuse, that are supposed to allow you to write as well, but they don't seem to do it either.

Is there a way to mount a remote ftp server, as a read/write network drive?

I need to do this so that I can update my web server - the php on the server is compiled without phar.

Any suggestions welcome!

The Finder isn't a full FTP client. As you noticed, it is read only.

Get a third party FTP client program or use the ftp command in the Terminal. I haven't used one in a while, do I don't know what is available.

I've found a good solution to this. Not a good ftp tool, unfortunately. However, a solution to the problem:

I've used Web Disk, is a cPanel implementation of the WebDav protocol. This is great because you have full read and write access.

Once you've set it up, on the Mac, you can access it with:

Create a Web Disk shortcut on your Desktop:

  1. Click here to save the file to your desktop.
  2. Save the quick start script.
  3. Open the quick start script’s .zip file.NOTE: Safari® users can skip this step. Safari will unzip the file for you.
  4. Find the following file: 'yourwebsite Secure WebDisk'
  5. Double-click the file’s icon.

Manual Connection Instructions

  1. From the desktop, click Finder.
  2. Select the Go menu.
  3. Choose the Connect to Server option.
  4. In the Server Address field, enter: https://yourwebsite
  5. Click Connect
  6. Enter your Web Disk username and password when the system prompts you.
  7. Click Connect to open your Web Disk.
