Q: Why do many Cinema Displays have half-a-block of pins, to plug into the full-size DVI connector ?
Why do many Cinema Displays (especially the 20-inch 2005-model) have half-a-block of pins, to plug into the full-size DVI-connector-socket ?
The other half-a-block of pins just simply doesn't seem to be there ?

DVI can be single-link or dual-link. Resolutions greater than 1020 x 1200 need dual-link.

Sometimes single link devices and cables use dual-link connectors, but with no wires connected to the dual-link pins, so you can't tell if something is dual-link just by looking at the connector.
