Time machine doesn't back up for a few weeks now. It looks like the back up is running (spinning arrow) but it actually doesn't back up. I haven't upgraded anything; just got some new RAM. All my back up folders are a few weeks old. Any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks a lot. I tried A4 and started a back up. I know the first back up takes usually really long. But it's running now for app. 18h. It says in the preferences/backing up bar that the machine is cleaning up; not backing up. Is there anything wrong?
You are welcome. The cleaning up is the normal end of the backup cycle. I would let it run and see if it eventually finishes.
Unfortunately it seems to be stuck cleaning up. It's been doing it now for two days. Any suggestions what the next step should be?
D6 wouldn't work – had to turn it off manually. The Repair Disc reported that there are no issues.
Should I should I start a back up and see or is there something else I should do before?
Try downloading the widget in A1. That will show you what Time Machine is doing. Then try another backup.

You can try another backup. Do you have another external drive you could attempt to backup to? If you do and the backup is successful, you may need to erase the original drive and start an entirely new backup.
