How to Set Static IP on Verizon Data Plan iPad?

Hello,

We are trying to set up a static IP on several iPads so they can access a secure website over a Verizon data plan. I have watched all the videos and have gone through all the directions I can google and I am still without a solution. For every solution I find it says to go into Settings>Cellular Data/Cellular>Cellular Data Network and click on the APN Tab to add in the information. There is no Cellular Data option on any of our Verizon Data devices.

I have called Verizon and Apple Support to see how to get this option to appear and it was the blame game being transferred back and forth for two hours. In the end I was told we need to create an APN profile through Apple Configurator 2 or AirWatch. I have tried creating both and to my knowledge neither work. Or I don't know where the APN tab appears with the APN profile. The only information provided for the APN by Verizon is "MW01.VZWSTATIC". The ipads are on iOS 9.2.1.

So here is what I have for our Apple Configurator 2 APN profile.

If anyone has had this issue before and knows a solution you would make my year!

Thanks!

You can't. You have no control over what IP address Verizon assigns to your iPad. The IP has to come from them as any other IP that is not one within their range would not allow you to have internet access through their services.

You can set a static IP addresses for local Wifi networks, but not for Cellular based ones, as those have to be assigned by the carrier for the internet connection to work.

You'll need to contact Verizon again. The carrier dictates which options are seen on the Cellular settings screen.

As far as I knew, Verizon was known to not allow APN changes, so there's no Data Network Settings option.

You need to talk to Verizon again, with the iPhones in Hand, preferably go to a Verizon Store and tell them this option is not available.

Try again. Escalate if necessary. There's nothing to do on the iPhone side to display the Network Options.

Carrier settings need to allow APN changing for it to be there.

About cellular data network settings on your iPhone and iPad - Apple Support

If your device uses a SIM card and your carrier allows you to edit the APN,

If you're using an iPhone or iPad in an enterprise environment, your IT manager might have set up a special APN for you to use. If this is the case, contact your IT manager to change your APN. If you change an APN that an IT manager set for you by using a configuration profile, you can tap Reset Settings to change it back:

It is possible to do this using a Mac and the Apple Configurator utility, I just fixed my iPad today to work with a Verizon SIM that has a static IP address. 😎

1. On any Mac, install Apple Configurator 2 from App Store. I am using Apple Configurator 2.2 (3C56) on MacBook Pro, OSX El Capitan 10.11.14.

2. Launch Apple Configurator, go to File->New Profile.

3. Scroll down to select "Cellular", then Configure.

4. Select Configured APN Type -> Data APN, enter Data APN Name = "mw01.vzwstatic", leave all other settings blank/default as shown below.

5. Go to File->Save.

6. Connect iPad to Mac with USB cable.

7. Right click on picture of attached iPad device in Apple Configurator and select "Add->Profiles"

8. Browse to the location where you saved the profile, select it, then Add.

9. You may get prompted to replace the existing profile, if so click Replace.

10. iPad will pop up an "Install Profile" dialog for you to review, then click "Install", then click "Install" again to install an unsigned profile.

11. iPad will pop up "Profile Installed", click "Done".

12. You might see a popup saying data has been activated successfully.

13. Now you can browse the Internet over 3G/4G and use your device's static IP address, to verify it browse to http://whatsmyip.org or install SpeedTest app and go to Settings to view internal/external IP addresses, you should see an IP there like 166.###.###.### which is your static IP.

This is excellent however make sure you ask Verizon what your APN is because there are 4 or 5 different ones. It depends on what region your Static IP was assigned from. For ex the mw01.vzwstatic used above is from the Mid West region so a static from the South region is so01.vzwstatic and so on. Just be sure that at the time of getting your static you also ask for the APN.
