Official DVD is ejected from DVD player

When I insert a brand new official DVD from Apple (containing OSX Snow Leopard) the DVD is ejected after 10-20 seconds. The DVD player is from a late 2009 model iMac. Any ideas as to what is the cause? The original harddisk has also already failed.
