Q: Restore Aperture Library in El Capitan

I just upgraded to El Capitan 10.11.4 from 10.9.x

All of my photos were paintstakingly organized in Aperture by folders for years, events, and life milestones.

I noted that Aperture is no longer available in my list of Applications - so my first question is, can I somehow restore Aperture?

Secondly, I made the mistake of "upgrading" my Aperture library for use in Photos, thinking that all of my laborious organizational work would be preserved. Instead, all of my folders are missing, and the photos are now sorted simply by date.

I tried to use Time Capsule to locate the original Aperture library but can't seem to find it. If I can locate it, is there a way for me to restore this library (assuming I can somehow restore Aperture)?

Thanks!

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2010), OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

Only Aperture 3.6 will run on El Capitan.

You should be able to update to this version by reinstalling aperture from the Purchases history at the app Store.  The "Updates" tab does no longer work for Aperture.  See this User Tip:    Updating to Aperture 3.6 After the Release of Photos

Secondly, I made the mistake of "upgrading" my Aperture library for use in Photos, thinking that all of my laborious organizational work would be preserved. Instead, all of my folders are missing, and the photos are now sorted simply by date.

When you migrate an Aperture library to Photos, the original Aperture library will still work with Aperture. Photos will just change the filename extension to ",migratedaplibrary".  Change the filename extension back to ".aplibrary" and then double click it to open it in Aperture,

If you deleted the original Aperture library, you should be able to restore it from your Time Machine backup. Open the folder "Pictures", and with  in the Finder, and with this folder open as the front most Finder window enter Time Machine.  Go back in time, until you are seeing your Aperture Library in the Pictures folder.

Then select it and click the "Restore" button.
