Q: Can I replace an older HDD from an older MBP with a cloned HDD from a later MBP running later OS?

I have a late 2011 2.8ghz 13in mbp (Mavericks 10.9.5) and an older mid 2009 2.53ghz 13in (Leopard). Just upgraded to a SSD (cloned my original 2011 HDD to the SSD) . Is it possible to place my old cloned HDD (Mavericks) into the 2009 mbp without issue? I took out the 2009 mbp HDD and can boot externally from the 2011 HDD with no problem. I want to make sure I can simply plug & play without issue. I don't know if there's anymore I need to do, just want to cover my bases. I plan on giving the 2009 mbp to a friend.

If the HDD booted the 2009 MBP externally, it WILL boot it internally. Make the swap.
