Backlight and function keys not working on Windows 10

Hi!

After I updated my Windows 8.1 to 10, I lost my keyboard's backlight, function keys (volume, brightness, etc) and the OSD that I used to have (similar to the OSX one).

My Bootcamp was updated thru USB, after preparing it on the Mac side. Now it's on version 6.

I tried reinstalling manually, removing everything Apple related and reinstalling, etc, but nothing seems to help.

Actually I just wasn't able to remove the Bootcamp Support, because there was no option on this item.

My MBP is Mid-2012.

Do you know what can I do to solve this?

Thanks!!!

Gustavo

Thanks for your answer!

I do have a Bootcamp item in Control Panel and I tried to apply some settings but nothing happened (the trackpad is ok).

I Also have Apple Keyboard driver installed under keyboards in Device Manager.

I tried to uninstall it and reinstall it, but nothing changed.

When I try to reinstall the full bootcamp drivers (using USB created on Mac), it gives me an error (Windows installer) but after clicking on Close program it continues to install.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks again!!

Hi Loner.

Sorry about this delay, but I tried many things before coming to reply.

So that's what I did:

  1. Reset SMC and NVRAM.
  2. Remade USB containing drivers, thru El Capitan 10.11.4.
  3. Tried to install again, receiving the same error.
  4. Looked thru Task Manager and nothing related to RealTek was found. Under Setup there was two itens, one without name. When I closed it, the installation quit.
  5. Tried do delete realtek folder from USB and repeat step 4. Same error.
  6. Tried to remove everything Apple Drivers related from Programs and Features and Device Manager. This made me with no keyboard at all.
  7. Still without keyboard, tried to reinstall bootcamp and got same error.
  8. Still without keyboard, tried to reboot and manually install keyboard's drivers. No luck.
  9. Tried to update drivers from Device Manager pointing to USB. No luck.

Bottomline: I'm with no keyboard support and still without fn keys and backlight.

Any thoughts? Maybe the drivers supplied through Bootcamp Assistant aren't the right ones?

Thanks again

P.S.: I noticed some of the drivers available on Programs and Features are on version 5.1.xxxx.

I suppose an USB keyboard would work, as I'm using an USB mouse and it works.

But I don't have an USB keyboard available for testing.

Here are my installed drivers.

Thanks again

P.S.: I'm from Brazil, but my Mac and Windows are in English and have always been. Strangely some Apple softwares are titled in Portuguese-BR.

P.S. 2: When I try to repair Support for Apple Applications (64bits) it gives me an error.

In Bootcamp.xml, there are specific versions which are supplied by 6.0.6133 version. Can you compare a couple and see if any of these are lower than what is in Bootcamp.xml? Based on dates, you have drivers from 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Unfortunately, my 2012 MBP has only W8.1, but I will check versions when I get access to it.

Loner,

I cross-checked a few drivers and they are the exact same version as on that xml file.

I managed to get my keyboard working again after removing the device from Devices screen (removing just on Device Manager wasn't working). I had to Add a Device and it worked.

So, I am back to the starting point. No backlight and no function keys.

I think I'll have to reinstall Windows, or something more drastic like that.

I normally work in low light environment, so the backlight is a huge difference for me. And, of course, the possibility to change volume is really util.

Any last thoughts?

Thanks again,

Gustavo

P.S.: is it supposed to have the same OSD items as on Mac? I mean, when you change the volume, for example.

P.S. 2: DO you know if the option "Reset this PC" from Update and Security screen can break the bootcamp?

Loner,

I was already gathering my stuff to remove Windows, but I was trying my last resources.

While removing every single unnecessary program, I looked into Startup tab in Task Manager.

I found out that Bootcamp Manager was there, but wasn't starting. So I started it manually and my keyboard backlit at the same time.

OSD and everything else now is working.

I still don't know what's causing it not to start correctly, though.

Thanks for your help!

If this was an upgrade from W7/W8.1 to W10, there is very peculiar behavior where services sometime will not start properly. Running setup.exe from Bootcamp folder re-installs such services, which is meant to address such issues.

If you started it manually, can you check Services and verify that the Apple Services are set to start automatically?

Now I'm trying to make it start automatically, because after rebooting my backlight was already on, but without my function keys.

When I started Bootcamp.exe manually everything came back on.

I checked it had compatibility mode on for W8.

I tried to uncheck it, but had no luck.

I tried to unpin to start and pin back again, but no luck whatsoever.

Can you confirm if it's the latest version available?
