Q: iPhoto Library - Photos Library - Running out of space

I started using iPhoto and then converted to Aperture but continued to use the iPhoto library. Since Apple withdrew from Aperture I started to use Lightroom for all new projects, leaving Aperture as an archive. However I am now running out of space on my Mac and would like to move the Photos and iPhotos libraries to an external drive as I use aperture less and less now.

I have tried to relocate originals, this works but still leaves the file in the Photos library, however this file in the photos library does not appear to be connected to the image in Aperture as when I deleted it from the external aperture simply said it could not be found.

the iPhoto library is 93Gb and the Photos library is a massive 153 gb. I have never created the Photos library and do not know if it is a duplicate or the same library as the iPhoto one.

I would appreciate any help in reducing the size of the libraries, I have even tried to delete originals but it still seems to be in the Photos library
