Q: iTunes 12.3.3.17 totally unusable

Since updating to iTunes 12.3.3.17 I have had nothing but problems.  It either fails to start, crashes as soon as I attempt any action if it does start, or crashes shortly after starting to play a song.  All problem signatures look similar to this:

Such errors can usually be fixed by deleting the offending dll, then repairing the component it is part of from the programs and features control panel. JavaScriptCore.dll is part of Apple Application Support and can normally be found in

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support or

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.

Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Why aren't there more people asking why they have to "rebuild" their itunes library every time a semi-major revision comes out? Apple has made nothing but crap software for the last several years, and the only reason I put up with it is because I have a massive podcast and music playlist library on an ipod that I don't want to lose by converting to a different mp3 player.

First I couldn't install 12.3.3.17 (had to repair the apple software installer program first), then once I got it installed, it crashes within 5 seconds of opening. Any insight from anyone on this second issue?

One option is to revert to the previous build of iTunes that worked for you. See the roll back advice at iTunes installers. Rolling back from 12.3.3 will involve restoring the pre-upgrade library from the Previous iTunes Libraries folder.

I was able to find an older itunes (12.0.1) version, and with lots of time and fiddling about, was able to get this to work on one machine. However my workplace has 100s of iTunes users behind a proxy. It would be preferable to not have a software update break something which was working fine for years. Or at least a fix to resolve this?

As I understand it 12.3.2.35 didn't have this problem. Downgrading to the most recent version, while still a little fiddly, should be easier than going way back and then rebuilding the library. I suspect Apple are aware of the problem, but you could always add your voice at iTunes Feedback. I don't know how quickly they will get out a fix.

I ended up reverting back to 12.3.2.35 and itunes seems to be working fine, for now.

I find the consistent suggestions to uninstall, reinstall, reboot etc etc  to smell very much like Apple has my money and I can go pound sand.  With all the issues surrounding this release, when will a real fix be released?  What we have right now stinks to high heaven.

I have been encountering the same issue, and this is not the 1st time I have had problems with Itunes, I love MAC products but I hate the support of some of the software products, like in this case ITunes for Windows.  And until the world does not accept Apple as the only product we have to lived with Windows in the middle

this is the error message I am getting and seams to be the same as the other people on this post and may others around the world

I can't click on anything in the store.  Takes FOR-EVERRRR to load just to be unable to click on anything.  As long as I just stay in My Music, it seems stable.  But doesn't Apple want my money??  FIX THIS!!!  Each new release keeps getting worse and worse!

I have same problem. Refuse to waste anymore time trying to fix this.

Finished with iTunes. Over to Amazon Prime Music (automatically uploaded all the CDs I have bought in the past off Amazon, which is all of them) and for anything new will either buy off Amazon if available or use Spotify.

    Apple can go screw themselves.

    Hi all,

I solved the problem by disabling "Automatically detect settings". (Proxy settings).

Internet options, Connections, LAN settings => disable Automatically detect settings

Hope that Apple will fix the Problem.

    Best

I have the same problem on windows 7 .  I have a subscription so now I'm paying for the privilege of broken software!  I have a call open with support but  no answer as yet.  Very poor software, thinking of going to another streaming service.

Have you tried the suggestions above?

Nb. I've noticed I posted an outdated link for Download iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) earlier. This one should stay current, the earlier link goes to the last build to support Vista.
