Q: iTunes 12.3.3.17 totally unusable

Since updating to iTunes 12.3.3.17 I have had nothing but problems.  It either fails to start, crashes as soon as I attempt any action if it does start, or crashes shortly after starting to play a song.  All problem signatures look similar to this:

The only thing that worked was to revert back to version 12.3.2.35. So Apple needs to look into this in the next update. There must be something wrong with that APPCRASH Fault Module Name: JavaScriptCore.dll and something elemental, since they can not solve it.

See the roll back advice at iTunes installers. Rolling back from 12.3.3 will involve restoring the pre-upgrade library from the Previous iTunes Libraries folder.

Are you on a network that uses an automatic proxy? This seems to be a trigger for this issue.

Disabling the "detect automatic proxy settings" prevented this crash for me on several machines, but that breaks things in our network.

This setting breaks itunes even when the proxy info is just "direct" so it must not like something in the proxy pac evaluation code, or the setting itself.

Any update from Apple on if anyone is working on this bug?

    Hi there!

Apple is informed, has recognized the problem and is working on a solution.

The problem is only with proxy authentication, which is mostly used in companies.

The iTunes version v12.3.2--35 working correctly.

The new version of iTunes v12.3.3--17 makes problems.

If the path to the Internet is free, the problem does not occur.

    The ticket is: # 1096990892

This thread is also known at Apple.

    greetings
    Tom

Hi, I have fixed,  It is proxy related.  I'm a home broadband user not a commercial network and I wasn't using a proxy as such, but I did have

"Automatically detect settings" clicked in my windows LAN settings (I'm not sure if recently installed VPN software added this option or whether it has always been configured that way).  I removed this option and itunes now works.

    Hope this helps/

Glad to hear it! would be even better if apple support had fixed it weeks ago!
