I can't open my ipad or shut it down. When I try to shut it down it goes automatically to a screen that has a cord and an iTunes icon? Need to find out what I need to do to fix it.

I followed the instructions but the iTunes software said there was a problem with the iPad and could not update. I tried the restore to factory settings and that failed too. What else can I do?
After those steps about all you can do is take it to an Apple Store for evaluation. Sounds like a hardware issue to me. Good luck.
