Why is the battery showing red, but plug it in and it goes green?
On our iPhone 4s, the battery runs low. To about 20% and goes red.
I plug it in, and suddenly it shows 55%.
Why might that be?

power cycle your battery, let it fully drain to where it shuts off, then charge it completely without using it.
