Q: Cannot disconnect from Apple TV

Greetings.

MBP late 2013. El Capitan

ATV2

I can connect to my Apple TV just fine (either mirror or just connected). But once connected, there's nothing more I can do on my computer. Including disconnect. The screen clears all windows and menus and shows only my background image. The cursor comes and goes when I move a mouse or magic pad. Touching any edges with the cursor (when it decides to become visible) will not bring up any menus, so I see no way of disconnecting, or choosing to play something else through the ATV.

My only way out is to power off the MBP and boot again. Just a wee bit inelegant.

My iPhone 6 works as it should with this ATV. Is there some setting that I'm missing on my MBP?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

    >> When you initiate Airplay and it is in mirror mode <<

Right off the bat I'm stuck. I have no way to choose mirror mode. It seems to give me some version of mirror mode, but I can't choose it nor switch it. My option in the Airplay menu is to is to "Airplay to: ATV" and once I choose that, I can never use the Airplay menu again. Not on my computer (it is gone) and not on the TV (the cursor freezes if I click on the airplay icon.

Sounds like yours works as I expect mine to. And it sounds like it is a problem with my machine, not the ATV (because again, my ATV works great from our iPhones).

Yes I agree.  By default my machine starts in mirror mode.  It works like a charm and we both have the same OS.

I think it is some corruption in your OS.  If you can take it to Apple they may be able to delete some preference file or perform some other obscure minor change to clear it if they have seen it before.  Most likely however with any corruption issue, it's best to just reinstall the OS to make sure you wipe out all the corrupt files.
