Received files are not displaying, opening or downloading

Just recently, whenever I receive any file in the imessage application, the files will only show as a white page with its name next to it and a download arrow at the far right. When I double click on the file, it just comes up with a zoomed in version of what i'm seeing at the moment. Also, whenever I click the download button nothing happens and when I drag it to my desktop it comes up with a circle with a cross through the middle meaning I cannot drop the file there. Please help as I use this for work and it is just becoming a real frustrating problem.

Hi,

There are several app that you can install that tell you what Port and what IP and app is connecting to as it starts up and even as it functions.

Little Snitch is one of these and it shows pop up alerts that you can Allow or Deny.

As well as these "at the moment" pop ups it has a list of Allowed and Denied items when you open the app.

This is for the iMessages login.

There is a similar named item needed for File Transfers.

Are you using anything like this and is the IMRemoteFileTransfer item allowed (I may not have the name exactly right but also see below at the pic).

Basically these apps are glorified Firewalls and can be more of a nuisance in some cases if associated processes are blocked as it is not clear they belong to Messages (or any other app where similar things happen).

Example pop up.
