Left and right audio channels not in sync

I have just started working on FCP X, and my left and right channels are not in sync. I want uniform levels in both the channels or a centre pan in the mix. But that's not happening. Need help!

IS the audio stereo or dual mono. Stereo camera recordings often show channel offset.

INteresting that that you work exclusively with detached audio. I guess this is the method you're used to using with your previous application.
