How do I email a photo, directly from the new 'Photos'? (on El Capitan)
iMac, I updated to El Capitan 2 wks ago
In Photos and when you're in the Photos tab, you should see the following in the upper right corner or out to the right of the photo you select. Clicking on it should show you the email selection.
Yes, I have found that, but my list does not show "Mail". It only shows:
iCloud Photo sharing
Messages
Air Drop
Set Desktop picture
..More ....
That is all. When I click on 'More' it has a box appear which says - "Use Apple and third-party extensions to customize your Mac"
That's all I get!
Under More then Share Menu, do you see Mail checked?
I have this list:
'Add to reading list' - which has a dark tick (check) next to it
'Mail' - with a light coloured/faint tick - but when I click on it, it does not come up as a tick (check) in a bright blue surround, as do 3 other things on this list.
'Messages' - faint tick
'Air Drop' - faint tick
Reminders - dark tick
etc etc
When I click on 'Mail' - the 3 things that do come up, as bright Blue squares, with a tick (check) are:
'Add to reading list'
'Reminders'
'Add to photos'
Same here with the Mail checkbox being greyed out.
Are you using the OS X Mail.app for your email? Or are you using some other mail client like MS Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.?
I use Mozilla Thunderbird for my email.
But I also have "Mail' which comes on this iMac - it says it's Version 9.3 (3124) - whatever that means!
In the Mail app what do you have selected in Preferences/General/Default Mail Reader? My hunch is if you have Thunderbird selected or you do not have any Mail accounts added, that this might be causing he issue.

Although I have it, I never use Mail, because I like to highlight some emails listed, in colours, eg green, so they show up easily and I can find them quickly, which I can do in Thunderbird, but cannot do in Mail.
If I go onto Mail, I can see my 2 email accounts there, with all the emails up to date. I just don't like its layout.
(I only used Mail to download photos from an email onto the old iPhotos, because you can't do this from Thunderbird.)
Ok so you have Mail accounts setup. Yes, try changing the Default Mail Reader to Mail instead of Thunderbird. Then Quit Mail and Photos and launch each again to see if Mail shows up in the list of Share options within Photos.

Unless you setup Mail as your email client you won't be able to email directly from a Photos library.
OK, I made Mail the default email reader. Then I quit Mail, and quit Photos. Then opened Mail - but it still did not show 'Mail' in the list.
So I closed the computer down, and restarted again.
Then it works! I can click on a photo and it sends as an email.
But, on the Photos page, it does not give an option to send at different sizes - until you get to the email, where the photo shows in the body of the email.
Then I noticed, 'Message size' and then on the right is a small box which says "Actual size'. Click on this and it gives the (hidden options) for emall, med and large. So that is good. (But it means I have to know how to use 'Mail', and learn all its little foibles!))

Now what I want to know is, why are Apple FORCING me to use their 'Mail' app to email my photos?! It's a cheek! That is not democracy.
Why won't it work using Thunderbird?
How can we get Apple to allow different 'mail clients'?
If it had not been for your help, my photos would still be stuck in the new annoying 'Photos' - never to get out in any of my emails!
In Mail's Accounts preference pane do you have an account enabled? What account is it?
and do you have it enabled in the System/Internet Accounts preference pane?

The 2 accounts say "G IMAP" then my email addresses.
@ Under Internet accounts it says:
iCloud - which I don't use
G Mail, Messages
G Mail
However, looking at the list on the right, which starts iCloud, as your 'picture' of how it looks on the screen, when I roll on down past YAHOO! it doesn't offer Mozilla Thunderbird (which is what I want as my default email reader).@
