Q: install questions for Macbook Pro Mid 2009

I have a few questions, and hope if someone knows some (of all the) answers.

1.  I am going to replace the HDD  for an SDD.   Can I just put it in and activate the SDD? (In Windows,  in needed to activate it with the Samsung Magic program)  in order to use it.

2.  When  I use  Command - R    it will install OS 10.10  on the macbook through the internet.  Is there a way to make it default 10.11 ?

3.  The macbook didn't have a DVD so used the Command - R to download and verify the Macbook Pro.    Is there a way to make an Install DVD for 10.10

or even better  for OS 10.11 ?    Or is that not possible.

4.  If  3 is possible,  how to I make the install DVD,  since it downloaded everything and installed right away.

Thank you all

If you have a proper USB installer, an Internet connection is not necessary to install the given OSX.  I have done this with Lion, Mt.Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite and El Capitan.  If the OSX will not install in a MBP that meets the OSX requirements, then you are dealing with a faulty USB installer.

    Ciao.

I could be wrong about the internet connection off an installer. But I do know that if using just recovery, you do need an internet connection.  Is this the same stick you are using for your  Macbook Pro now? The one you used at work? Do you have access to an external drive inclosure or a usb to 2.5 SATA cable? Just to see if you can use the usb installer to install that way. And then boot to the new drive while still in the external setup. Just in case there is a internal cable problem. Some people have reported that  the stock SATA drive will boot but the SSD drive has problems. Usually its the cable. The usb install stick should have a disk utilities option. You may need to go to the top menu to find it.
