my wife wears an Apple Watch and suffers from irregular blackouts. After the last one, I checked the data through the health app and saw that around the time of the blackout, there appeared to be no data recorded. A heart rate range was recorded around the time before and after the blackout. Can someone explain how the data recording works? Thanks,

Thanks but it happened again today. I got a call from her while I was returning home from a workout. She said she had fallen and needed help getting up. Fortunately, our boarder was at home and could do that. When I got home, the first thing I did was look at her heart rate via the health app on her iPhone. Sure enough, it appeared that no data had been recorded when she fell. I'm beginning to suspect that this is not a coincidence but I need someone to help me understand what else that may mean.

During general daily wear (as opposed to during a Workout), Apple Watch takes background heart rate measurements only when you are still (so also at varying intervals).
Note also that Apple Watch, the heart rate sensor and the included apps are not medical devices and are intended for fitness purposes only.

Thanks everyone, I still can't believe that somehow these aren't related.
If someone is in the unfortunate act of falling, then they are, by definition, not also being still - so no background heart rate measurement would be taken.
Plus, every time she had been standing or moving, not being still. Thanks.
