What version of OS X is installed on your computer? You posted this question in the Yosemite Forum.
I suspect that you have a bluetooth mouse.
From personal experience, that happens to me quite often when the batteries get below the 20% mark. Click the mouse a couple of times after restart to prod it to be recognized.

Yea, sorry, realized its in Yosemite. I'm using El Capitan and my track pad has 52%. Its only happened on the new iMac recently. Thank you, will look at the mouse troubleshooting suggestions or call Apple.
All is on and good (BlueTooth). Seems not to be the issue after restart.
