Q: Error 1480 in iPod shuffle 3rd generation in Windows 7 Home Premium

Hello. My iPod shuffle 3rd generation was working fine for almost 8 years. Recently, I plugged my iPod into the USB port of my laptop having Windows 7 Home Premium. I found that all the playlists' names were displaying but all the songs were erased.

Moreover when I switch on my iPod when disconnected from my laptop, I see a solid amber light and no songs play.

I connected to iTunes and clicked on the option 'Restore iPod'. In spite of goo internet connection, it displays an error 'There was a problem downloading the software for the iPod "My_name's iPod". An unknown error occurred (1480)'

I have iTunes version that is one version older to the current version. But, I feel that is not the core problem.

I would be glad if someone can help me solve this problem ( other than telling to update the software if possible ). Thank You.

iPod shuffle, Windows 7

Sound like there is data corruption on the shuffle, so doing the Restore is the appropriate action.  The download problem could the a temporary one in the connection between you and Apple's servers, or a temporary problem on Apple's servers.  Or some type of firewall issue that prevents you from connecting.  Probably not related to iTunes version.  Are you able to access other online parts of iTunes, such as iTune Store?  If you go to your Purchased screen, can you download a past purchase?

Try restarting your computer, and running iTunes immediately.  Then, try doing the Restore again.  Doing a Restore is not related to your Apple ID; see if it makes a difference if you are NOT signed in with your Apple ID.  If you have another computer, or another user account on that computer, try running iTunes there (with a different iTunes library) and doing the Restore.  You can do the Restore with a different user account (iTunes library) and not sync anything; then connect the shuffle to your usual iTunes library and sync.

I have tried all the above except two:

    1) trying with another computer

    2) I do not have any Apple ID.

Disable (or change) security software settings, during the Restore process?

Install the latest version of iTunes, unless you have a reason for running an older version.  This may not be the cause, but it's possible.

Although your error number is not specifically listed, it seems like a network error.  Apple provides this advice

If you see Error 3194, Error 17, or 'This device isn't eligible for the requested build' in iTunes - Apple Support

Yes. I disabled the anti-virus during the 'Restore' process. It did not work. The network's strength is also good. I am unable to understand what the issue is.

The issue would not be one of network "strength," but of networking settings or configuration that prevents connection to Apple's servers to download the iPod's software package for some reason.

Do you have a secondary computer, or (if your computer is a laptop) can you connect to the Internet at a different location (different network)?
