Q: Microphone not working with Siri only.

I have an iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.3, on Verizon network. My microphone is not working with Siri rendering it basically useless to me.

Microphone works with other apps (Waze, Voce Memo, Recording Video, etc) just not Siri.

It started when I was on iOS 9.2 ?? just before updating to 9.3 and still the same, the upgrade did not help.

I tried everything I could online

  • Hard Reset
  • Microphone works with other apps: Voice Commands, Voice Memos, Phone Calls, Shazam
  • Turned Siri off and on
  • Siri works with the headphones that came with my phone and my Bluetooth headset
  • Cleaned Microphone port and 3.5mm port
  • iOS Updated
  • Toggled noise calcellation

Nothing worked. I've been very frustrated trying to find information about this and can't stand looking for this to be addressed any longer.

Can anyone help? It looks like a software flaw.

IF it is software related, the next step that I would recommend is that you reset all settings. This will take the phone back to out of the box device settings and you will have to go through and enter all of your settings again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings.

In keeping with the thinking that it is software related, the next step, IMO, is to restore the iOS software. Backup, restore to factory settings then restore the backup. If that doesn't work, the restore as new and start over with a clean phone. You will have to download your content again, and/or sync whatever you have in iTunes on your computer.

Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

You could try erasing all content and settings before restoring, but that does not place a new copy of the iOS software back onto the device and that's why I prefer using iTunes.

This article might help to find out why Siri does not recognize you:

Get help with the microphones on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

    Especially the sections:

If audio from video recordings sounds faint, or Siri can’t hear you, make sure that the microphone near the iSight camera—on the top, back corner of your iPhone—and the receiver isn’t blocked or covered.

If you've tried these steps and people still can't hear you on phone or FaceTime calls or Siri doesn’t hear your requests, contact Apple Support.

I already tried removing the cover, checking/cleaning the microphones and Face Time calls work fine as well as video record and voice memo.

I don't think the hardware has been the issue, but Siri itself.

Whenever I engage siri with the hold of home button, it can't hear anything.

Thanks Demo, resetting is the last step unless someone knows it's a known issue or some other setting tweak.

My phone is a work phone so I may have to go through the company IT to set the phone back up which is painful.

I'll try again, but your suggestion may be the last step

    Thanks.
