iPhone network has problems

I've had an iPhone 4s with the latest IOS for about 6 months now, got it from a friend. And the performance went down after awhile. After a little bit it couldn't connect to a wifi network because it couldn't read any. Of course, I went to the Apple Support Forums, and I read that you can put it in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes. So I tried that, and it worked for a little amount of time. Then after about half a day or so, it would go back to the way it was. It couldn't read a wifi network. Also, while I was using it when it did work. It would randomly disconnect me the wifi network, then when I tried to join it, it would say "Unable to connect to Wifi Network". This might've been the wrong choice, but I stuck it back in the freezer again when it wouldn't work. And now the wifi button to turn it on is stuck and it won't slide over. Then, again I went to the Apple Support Forums, and the community said to reset your network settings. Which I did, and it's still stuck and won't change no matter how many times I reset it. Is it about done for? What can I do to fix this?

If you already reset the network settings, as suggested in this article If Wi-Fi is grayed out or dim on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support , and this did not work, getting it checked by visiting your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store would be the next step. They can tell you more about your repair options.

As far as I remember, a failing Wi-Fi chip has been an issue to some 4s devices in the past, but I don't know if this hardware problem can be fixed, without costing too much, or if an Out-of-Warranty replacement, which is $149, would be cheaper in the end.
