Q: Does Erasing a device also "sign out" from the device the Apple ID associated with that device?

Does Erasing a device also "sign out" from the device the Apple ID associated with that device?

If an individual forgot to "sign out" of a device before erasing the device, is that Apple ID automatically signed out from the device or does one have to reconfigure the device with the existing Apple ID simply so one can sign out that Apple ID from the device and then erase the device?

I found an Apple article that infers that erasing a device also signs out the Apple ID, but the article does not specifically state this.

Thank you,

John

Yes, make it easier to steal one, thats a very good idea WeaverJK

Make suggestion to Apple that they dismantle the security system because you want it that way.

Sorry, somehow I prematurely hit the Reply button.  If I understand your original intent, you want to avoid setting up the iDevice again.  I guess all that I was getting at above is knowing how the various Apple accounts may be linked together seems to be a big risk if you lose physical control of the phone without erasing it.

    Csound1,

I was a computer programmer for many years.

I have been working as a computer administrator and engineer for 35 years.

I earned (yes earned) my CISSP, CISM, and CISA certifications.

Please explain to me how making it convenient for a customer to "sign out" when authenticating to Erase the device (putting in the Apple ID Password, the same password one would put in to authenticate to the "sign out" option directly) would compromise security?  Until you explain it, I truly cannot guess at the logic you are using to arrive at the conclusion that such a convenience (so one doesn't have to authenticate twice with the same password and have to remember to sign out before erasing) would compromise the device's security.

    Thank you

ALL:  here's the definitive answer (learned by doing):

As others on this thread have said, one must "sign out" prior to erasing the device.

Yesterday, I had erased without signing out (and then I remembered that this may cause an issue, hence my inquiry here).

Today, I attempted to use the "remove device" option after using a web browser to sign in to my Apple account.

When I went to the device and attempted to remove it, I was prompted with this message:  "This device will reappear if it is still signed in and connects to the Internet."  From this warning, it is obvious that the "remove device" feature does not perform a remote sign-out of the Apple ID that is currently logged onto the device.
