Q: For cloud services: No Share Options in Context Menu; "You have not installed any extensions."
Hi all,
as proposed by glp, I'll start a new thread, originally, I posted my problem here , but it turned out, my problem is different from glsp's. So now a short summary, and thank you for reading:
I have a populated shares menu and this part is working, but all 3rd party Finder extensions (Dropbox, ownCloud, Google Drive, ... likely available as "All (All thrid-party extensions)") are not available in the GUI, only on the command line using pluginkit. Moreover, they also do not work in the Finder, so I don't have green sync-symbols nor context menu entries for direct access to the share options of a file from the Finder, i.e. public screenshots e.g. here differ from what I have:
No share entries "Share Dopbox Link", "View on Dropbox.com", "Share this folder..." and not green symbols, this holds true for all cloud services like Dopbox, e.g. ownCloud and Google Drive. Indeed, the Finder plugins seem not to work, although the sync demons themselves do, i.e. the files are still synced, but I would really like to have back the direct access to the share options from the finder. I guess, there is something wrong with the Finder plugin/extension configuration (access rights, missing files, damaged config file, ...), but couldn't figure out, what. I tried deactivating and reactivating some from the command line (using pluginkit) hoping for repairing it that way, but this didn't work -- also my runs with secure boot and Disk Utility aimed at repairing wrong permissions or damaged config files, but w/o success.
I've double checked on a second Mac with a similar software installation history, but there, everything works.
I am not sure, if this is since the El-Capitan update (currently I am running 10.11.3 (15D21) on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)) or even longer since Mavericks, from that I had updated.
What I tried:
- I tried "If Share options or Markup is missing after upgrading to OS X Yosemite or El Capitan - Apple Support" also.
- I tried the testing procedure described here (thank you for writing it down),
- it affects also totally new accounts, even if I install dropbox after logging in to a totally new account,
- I tried secure boot, didn't help: neither any plugin available from this mode, nor thereafter back in normal operations
- I tried resetting NVRAM,
- I checked my drive, repaired one file (obviously a xar-archive of the ElCapitan setup files), but no progress regarding my problem
- I checked the Activity Monitor for "Dropbox Finder Integration", but I have only "Dropbox" in there. (proposed by glsp, thank you), however, I have no idea, why it is missing, if it is missing.
Whatever I do, I can't get any extension showing up.
The strange thing is, if I use the command line tool pluginkit as follows:
$ pluginkit -vmA | grep owncloud
+ com.owncloud.desktopclient.FinderSyncExt(1.0) B63CBAA7-6512-4E3F-A7F7-21ED945FF89D 2016-03-14 11:17:45 +0000 /Applications/owncloud.app/Contents/PlugIns/FinderSyncExt.appex
$ pluginkit -vmA | grep Dropbox
+ com.getdropbox.dropbox.garcon(1.14) 6085C2E9-1682-4CAE-A8C3-49D5B9BB8C83 2016-03-14 11:02:54 +0000 /Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/PlugIns/garcon.appex
$ pluginkit -vmA | wc -l
46
it lists many (46) finder plugins, e.g. ownCloud, Dropbox, ... most of which are enabled (tried dis- and re-enabling some using pluginkit too).
Has anybody else an idea, what'g going on there? I would be happy to have my cloud-context menus back.
Thanks in advance,
Stephan
