Q: El Capitan Upgrade & FCPX 10.2.3 lost projects

Hi,

So I recently updated my MacBook Pro to the El Capitan upgrade - I have been hesitant for a while to upgrade but I wanted to use a plugin for my FCPX which required the new software. Consequently it meant that my version of FCPX 10.0.7 would not load and I was forced to upgrade to the 10.2.3.

I have been using FCPX for several years and have never had an issue - so naturally I assumed that after doing the update everything I have worked on would still be there. But obviously it wasn't. After doing some reading I realise you can upload previous events and projects however when I have tried to do this, (selecting, "Update All") my FCP doesn't respond and I have to force quit the program.

Stupidly I did not export or save my files before updating my Mac, which I understand is my fault. However, surely there is a way for me to access my projects?

Praying for some help!

Rach

All should be OK if you follow the UPDATE process correctly.

Read and understand this before proceeding:

Update your Final Cut Pro X libraries to Final Cut Pro X 10.1 and later - Apple Support

You will find plenty of posts on this forum regards updating from the older Projects and Events system to the newer Library method.

Did you move your Final Cut Projects or Final Cut Events folders? Those folders  need to be in your Movies folder for the update process to work if they're on your startup disk…or if they stored are on an external drive they need to be at the root level of that drive.

So Al is likely correct that you'll eventually find and update your projects and enjoy working on a much improved version of FCP..

Thanks for the advice - but I'm still having some issues. I've managed to transfer the events over to my new libraries, but i can't seem to move my projects over? How do I access my projects?

I dragged my events folder into my new library - does it work the same for the projects?

    Thanks

You do not drag anything anywhere.

After reading through the already discussed "how to" :

You Update Libraries through the Home>Movies folder or by having your old Projects and Events at the top level of other drives.

Each drive will create it's own Library as does the Home>Movies folder.
