New 9.7 iPad Pro warped, bent, concave

Just got my brand new iPad Pro 9.7 256 gb wifi only in space grey, noticed that it is slightly warped/bent concave, I'm wondering if this is done by design to stabilize the camara bump when laying flat. Does anyone else notice the same thing? not sure if I should exchange it for another one, heavy load could have been placed on top during shipment don't see anything out of the ordinary on the box it came in, no dents or obvious damage.

IF you no longer own an Apple product, then why did you come in these technical support forums, take the time to sign up and only to post a rant complaint about a former Apple product you owned and rant and complain about Apple, in general!

It’s clear you no longer own the tablet.

So, you clearly do not need help with a non-existance Apple product!

Apple designers and engineers do not read nor participate in these Apple technical support communities.

These are user to user Apple product support communities.

We are all users here, just like you!

So, your complaints about Apple and its products aren’t being seen or read by ANYONE from Apple!

Apple supplies these forums for users to work out their product issues with other users, but these community forums ARE monitored/moderated by Apple Staff assigned to these community forums, but I do not think any info is ever passed on to who/mever the cognizant parties are who would need to know if there are any mounting issues with a product or software.

The only way to get Apple to listen to you is to use their feedback portion of their website.

Good Luck to You!

Enjoy that Android device for a long as it lasts.

I bought a new ipad pro 9.7 32 GB wifi + cellular a couple months ago. Last night when it was sitting on the counter I noticed that it looked slightly curved. After reading these comments it sounds like I am not the only one. It functions fine, but as someone else mentioned... they were "refused" service for their iPad since it was "bent". I don't want that to be an issue. Has anyone else had this issue recently? Did you take it back? Thanks!

I have had my iPad Pro for over a year have had no problems with the device at all, and " touch wood " it's running perfectly. Yesterday evening I just got a sideways glance and noticed a very subtle bend in mine along its length. It isn't drastic but it indeed has a bend which starts below the three dots on the side. I'd say it was a mm - 2mm at most but you can notice it. As mine is out of the year warranty I'm probably out of look but I'm sure apple must know about this issue and are keeping quiet about it for fear of lots of these being returned.

They won't do anything though will they as I don't have Applecare and it's out of warranty now , I only noticed it by chance I thought it was my bi focal specs at first but it for definite has a bend in it!. To be honest I'm that protective of it im amazed I have both official front and rear protectors. Why doesn't the glass screen crack that's what amazes me ( not wishing to tempt fate by saying that ).

I bought an iPad Pro last year, and this year there was a battery issue with it and eventually the iPad wouldn't turn on. Took it into Apple, and after they tested it it came at 0.02 or something so they replaced it - didn't offer a refund just gave me a refurb/different one.

I have had this for about four months, in a cover (with vents etc) and its always on my desk, in my hands or on my nightstand. Never in a bag as I always have it in my hand when travelling - gotta get me netflix fix 😝

Anyway, this morning I woke up and noticed a white smudge on my screen; took a closer look and took the iPad out of the cover. It is slightly bent. Proceeded to chat with someone online from Apple and took it in to a 'genius'. They took one look and said user error. I said how? I haven't done anything to it, and the white mark... o well- if it had just been the white mark we would've replaced it. Nope, just user error, you bent it. And after asking the gentleman to confirm that there is no way no how that the iPad could've done it by itself, I left. He didn't do any testing or anything - which I felt was very disappointing.

Anyway, I have had multiple online chats and just got off the phone with someone somewhere at Apple. They ran an online diagnostic and it has all come back with green ticks - so no issues with it.

I replied with, well since this morning the iPad has gotten worse. Now it has a considerably noticeable bend - starts at the three points where the pen would sit and goes past the apple logo. So through the guts of it.

Not sure what to do, mind you the person on the phone was a lot more help then the 'geniuses' at the store. As I told the lady I was talking to, think I will be moving away from Apple.

I was told I could take it to get a diagnostic done, which when I get a chance I will book it in at an authorised techo, but that could take awhile considering we we live and distances needed to travel.

My concern is the fact it is bending and continues to bend with nil use. Guess we shall see if it continues.

From what I have read and what seems to be the case the glue they use expands or contracts depending on the temperature of the iPad's causing them to bend, if you're watching Netflix it will get very hot. Refurbs are obviously taken apart and put back together using the same type of glue or adhesive on the screen and body in certain areas.

I had the exact same issue. I went to the Apple Store today in Ridgeland, MS. I made sure I made an appointment and entering the store, none of the 5 employees standing at the door did not greet me. I had to ask for help. No one introduced themselves to me, no smiles, nothing more than, "Go stand in that line there". The second person I met after standing in line confirmed my appointment, but still no greeting or introduction of themselves. When I showed the girl that my iPad was bent, she gave me a strange look, like I wasn't the first person to bring the ipad in like this. The gentleman that came up to help me, said I had two options. With apple car they would replace it for $49.99 plus tax or I could purchase a replacement for $449.00. I don't have apple care, so i had only one option...buy a new one. The gentleman said they do not repair these items. Terrible customer service and an even worse product. So many people and so many issues. Apple has really lost all credibility with me. I switched to android two years ago, with 0 issues. I'm completely done with apple at this point, not because of the problem with the product, but because I have had nothing but terrible experience with their customer support. They don't take of their customers, nor seem concern with retaining them.

Same here. Returned mine this afternoon, checked two others fresh out of the box which were also slightly dished. These were all the space grey version. They measured the gap in the centre to be about 1.2mm, a rose gold one on display was about 0.5mm.

The boxes were all in perfect shape so unless somehow affected by extremes in temperature or something during shipment, they surely must have been like this when they left the factory. Which I imagine would point to a manufacturing problem, perhaps mostly affecting the space grey with the black bezel. If so it does seem odd though that this was missed by quality control, it surely can't be within manufacturing tolerances.

It's early days but if this turns out to be manufacturing it might be helpful to list serial numbers to isolate affected batches or runs, maybe only certain countries are affected. I'm in the UK and the 3 that I saw with this problem were in the range DMPRDxxxH1M9.

You can have an Apple Store employee take a new one out of the box to inspect before you decide not to get a replacement.

I did this with my 12 inch iPad Pro that my original had reaaly bad screen yellowing.

I had Apple employees pull out 3-4 units out of the box until I had an iPad that was sufficiently minimal of this yellowing issue.

SInce then, the minimal yellowing that my screen had has since disappeared.

It took over 2 months to completely clear up.

I think it was a result of a manufactring/process anomaly.

You can inspect the packaged item in the store before you leave to make sure you get an iPad that is not bent.

If you run into another bent iPad in the store, then have them pull another box until you get one that meets your expectations.

Good Luck!

I took a refund. Having wasted the afternoon travelling to the shop, explaining the problem twice, checking the replacement in the car before I left only to find it was the same, then finding the second replacement was also bent, that was enough. I also spoke to an Apple representative who had been alerted to the issue and then reported it on to Apple. She was going to get back to me when she had some news as I would still really like a flat one, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Maybe the aluminium is thinner than the iPad Air 2, could explain how they kept the weight the same while adding 3 more speakers. I don't know if the Air 2 was ever affected like this but as the shells are so similar you wouldn't expect problems unless the shell is thinner or made with lower grade aluminium.
