Apple Watch Workout app vs Strava app screen refresh speed

Why does the Apple Watch Workout app refresh the display faster than the Apple Watch Strava app?

When I raise my arm to see my running/cycling speed in the Workout app the screen displays significantly faster than when I do the same using the Strava app. Is it because Strava is a 3rd party app for the Apple Watch?

Apple Watch, watchOS 2.2

Hi

Strava advises the following:

There is a delay in updating my stats when I raise my wrist, what's going on?

We are aware of this issue and agree that it's a problem. Unfortunately the Strava app is not allowed to run in background which is why there is a delay in updating your stats when you raise your wrist. We did not feel that it was helpful to show you old values so we currently gray out the stats until the app can update.
