Drag and drop in finder stops working

I recently updated to El Capitan on my mid 2012 macbook pro retina. After the updated the drag'n'drop functionality in finder drops out randomly. I can copy and paste with my keyboard, but dragging and dropping files within finder or between finder and other applications doesn't work. This usually happens when my mac has been running for a few days. Logging out and in again solves the problem.

Google searches have all come up emtpy.

Anyone got a clue?

there are three options to sort out the issue .

1. first of all close all running applications by using key board short key : command + tab + Q . then do a right click on desktop and choose sort by none .

2 . press : command + J then choose sort by none .

3, take your cursor on the top menu bar and select view choose sort by none .

the user can use any one of the method .

Hi, I'm the developer of Dejal Time Out.

The aforementioned Radar bug report was written by me. I contacted Apple Developer Technical Support about this issue, offering to spend one of my limited support credits, and they said it was a known issue with no workaround. Not very helpful.

I blogged about this issue and others as "Apple's neglected OS".

The correlation with iTerm2 is interesting; I haven't heard that one before. It does make more sense as a trigger, since it would actually do something with the clipboard. I'd be very interested if one of you could try running Time Out but not iTerm2, to see if the issue still occurs.

Do you by any chance do a lot of copying and pasting to Apple's Notes? I noticed that I had this issue last week when I tried to paste some info in to a note. The info just would not paste and soon after, when I tried to drag and drop, it didn't work either. So that's another possibility since I wasn't using iTerm at that point at all and this was soon after a reboot.

I am basically clutching at straws at this point and not using things like iTerm or Notes unless I really need to 😀

I'm the author of Time Out. I've been working with an Apple engineer to figure out this issue, which is a high priority for Apple and Dejal.

As far as we can tell, the issue isn't a bug in Time Out, but a general OS bug that Time Out happens to trigger more reliably than other apps, probably because it both runs for a long time and has transient break helpers. The issue only seems to affect newly launched apps, which is why the break helper can display the error but the main app doesn't.

Anyway, I have implemented a possible workaround in Time Out version 2.1. So please update to that, and see if it helps. Apple has also added more diagnostics in Sierra, so using that may help too. I haven't had any reports of the issue when using Time Out 2.1 on Sierra, so it may be fixed there. If anyone does experience the issue using both of those, please let us know.

I have this problem too! When I use any application, dragging any window, whether its files or applications, sometimes it randomly drops. At first I thought it was my mouse, So I changed that and I still have the problem. It's quite annoying because when moving stuff around, it drops it wherever it wants. I tried to close and relaunch finder too. I've restarted the computer and that doesn't work either. Even when the computer has been off for days, it still has the issues on fresh start up. Once I pick up any icon or move anything, it tends to drop randomly within 5 seconds of moving it around.

Currently running 10.12.6 on a Mac Pro (Mid 2010) 2 x 2.4 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon, 32 GB 1055 MHZ DDR3, ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB x 2.

Please help me fix, it didn't do this before.
