Q: Battery problem after update to IOS 9.3.1

I updated my Iphone 5 to IOS 9.3.1 about a week ago, whereafter the battery drained within 3-4 hours. I thought that the battery finally packed up and ordered a new one !

The problem still exists, now the battery lasts max. 5 hours.

Any solution apart from switching off many of the standard features ?

iPhone 5, iOS 9.3.1, null

Yep - me too - iPhone6s & iPad Air2 both suddenly getting only several hours out of full charge, I used to almost stretch to two days on my phone between charges if I had to, and perhaps a week on the iPad before this update....

Add me to the list. 6S was always great for battery life, more than 1 day of reasonably heavy usage,  until I loaded 9.3.1 .  Today at the airport in desperation  I reset all the settings as some have suggested. Now I have an unfamiliar looking interface and had to go and reset all things like not pushing mail, and automatic app refresh, as before. But the problem persists.

So from 100% battery  at 6am when I left home, at the airport I was down to 50% 4 hours later, (light data usage) and after the flight in airplane mode, down to 36%. This is catastrophic, even as an Apple addict. this is the final straw after the issues with 9.0 and click through links a few weeks ago.

Come on Apple, admit you have a problem and we might forgive you if you give us a quick fix, but ignoring it is a real negative way of helping your customers.

Thats the problem though apple says the issue isn't a common one and isn't enough to warrant a fix.  They fail to realize it IS a problem and it NEEDS to be fixed.

I sure hope you have bad information because this is terrible having to monitor the battery life to make sure the phone will make it all day with very light use.

I might have found one culprit which has made a difference. The Apple-supplierd Weather App (not 3rd party) , which I never use at all, was set to use location services ALWAYS, turned it off and battery is definitely better, but not sure if it is completely back to where it was.

UPDATE after 30 mins, well it is better, but not good. lost 2% in 30 mins, with very little usage in that time, but thats an improvement! Also found Apple tracking my frequently visited locations tied on so turned that off as well.

But it was a false hope. Down to 19% after 6 hours of doing absolutely nothing. Trying to get to see a Genius tonight, see if they live up to their name. Bet they try to tell me it is a hardware problem!

Well that was a waste of time with a Genius. He checked out the phone, said the battery condition was fine. Said he had never heard of any battery issues with 9.3.1, and invited me to erase all content and settings and start it up as a brand new phone which I did. Guess what. Lost 12% of battery power in 2 hours without being touched at all.

Forgot to mention also that now it complains that all cables I use to charge it, even Apple cables, are illegal accessory cables, and usually refuses to charge up with them. Then suddenly it will accept a cable and charge up.

I explained that I had flown with it in flight mode and it still went flat, and his answer was that I could always switch it off. At which point I lost it. So an Apple software update leaves me with a constantly dying phone, and his answer is to switch it off!

Anyway Samsung or LG here I come on Monday.

I'm inclined to believe the Apple Support response regarding the problem with my iPhone 6. I tweeted @AppleSupport, he got my serial number, and told me that my iPhone charge cycle is already 777 when the optimum battery performance is at 500 charge cycles. Beyond that, it is not surprising my phone behaves in such a way draining so fast.

Though this sounds like a pretty acceptable reason for my iPhone 6, I am dumbfounded still that iPhone 6S owners are having problems. I don't believe iPhone 6S owners have charged their phones more than 500 times in such a short period of time.

So am I giving myself false hopes into thinking that perhaps, 777 charge cycles should still be okay for a 19-month old iPhone? And that really, this is a software problem?

Guys my 6s battery issue on 9.3.1 solved by using "reset all settings" without losing any of my data.

I also had this issue with my iphone 3gs when updated it to ios 6.1.6 using OTA update, I think using OTA update sometimes cause issue, maybe apple should look after for this.

I tried it twice and that didn't do anything.  The first time it made my battery life drain 10% in the minute it took to do it.  Second time didn't do a thing.

Reset all settings.. After resetting all the pwds and such the phone seems to be back to normal.  After full charge this evening I will see how the day goes tomorrow but in the last about five hours the battery has only dropped 8%

    Settings>general>reset>reset all settings

Download latest ios 9.3.1 and do a clean restore and of course set a backup before that, I 99% sure that will help you.
