Q: Why do Windows Clients ignore ACL's in Server?
I have issues in the past with file sharing with Mac OS X Server (running 10.11.4). I like how it works, but I don't find it working consistently.
Originally I was trying to setup permissions through POSIX in Finder, and finding out I should be using Access Control Lists in Server. I had issues with clients taking ownership of files, and no one else could access them (including file backups) even though it was specified and propagated to shares that everyone in the users group can access and edit files.
Since then I setup a new server with new drives. Guess what? It's happening again. I've never touched POSIX in get info in Finder. It's all been setup using Server 5.1 and the Windows Clients if they save as will take ownership of a file and no one can access them. It will have their name as owner and everyone else is listed as no ownership even though the ACL specifically states everyone can access and edit.
So, am I doing something wrong?
The User Group are not Admins. They can access only the files in the share called "Data". The Macs can save as and it seems fine. Several times a day I have to propagate permissions, just so people can keep working and sharing files.
