I'm wanting to purchase an Apple TV and had a question.

I have an iPhone 4 and want to connect it to an apple tv, to listen to my music. My question is: on the locked screen, when I slide up to display the controls, the airplay option isn't there. Is this because the iPhone has to see the apple tv before the option appears, or should the option still be on the iPhone without an apple tv in sight? Here's a screen shot of what I see. FYI: phones software version is 7.1.2

Hi @rskern,

Here are some things you can check:

  • Make sure the Apple TV is turned on;
  • On the Apple TV (I assume that you have the Apple TV 4, correct me if I'm wrong) go to Settings --> AirPlay. Check if Airplay is turned on.
  • Check the security settings. Set these to None and turn off Require Device Verification.
  • And last but not least, make sure that the Apple TV and your iPhone are on the same (Wi-Fi) network.

If you still don't see the AirPlay button restart your iPhone and Apple TV to see if that will help.
