Q: Final Cut Pro 7 Not Accepting .MOV Format

I downloaded an MTS clip.  I then converted the MTS clip to an .MOV file so i can import it into Final Cut Pro 7.  But, when i try to import the .MOV clip into Final Cut Pro 7, i get the following error message:  FILE ERROR: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown

Why is this happening?

And MOV is just a container...like a can.  It's what's IN THE CAN that matters.  MOV only means that it's a Quicktime file. That file can contain H.264, or HDV, DVCPRO HD, DV...ProRes, Sorenson, Animation....any sort of filling...known as CODECS.  FCP only works with certain codecs.  You need to convert your AVCHD .MTS file to ProRes 422. That's a codec FCP likes.
