Q: Cannot use Chinese Bank Credit Card on Apple Pay in the US

I have added one debit card and one credit card (with both Visa and Union Pay) from Industrial and Commercial Bank of China on my Apple Pay. However, I have not succeeded in using neither of them in the US.  Apple Pay fails each time I tried to use it in the US. Is there any settings that I have to set or I cannot use Chinese Bank Cards/Credit Card on Apple in China.

 

Both cards require passcode when used in China with the chip reading POST. But the credit card can be used with just the magnetic strip and signature.

    Your card issuer may be able to advise you why your payment attempts in the US have not been successful.

     

    You may also wish to report your failed transactions to Apple (the form enables you to report issues with specific types of cards from specific issuers):

    I called the ICBC. It turns out that all Chinese Bank Cards/Credit Cards loaded on to Apple Pay can only settle in Chinese Yuan through the Union Pay network, even though my credit card can also be used to pay US dollars via Visa network. Therefore, I cannot use these cards on Apple Pay to pay at Merchants who do not do transaction in CYN via Union Pay network.

     

    So why Chinese Bank Cards/Credit cards on Apple Pay cannot do transaction in US dollars via other networks other than Union Pay? Apple should resolve this issue. Otherwise Apple Pay with Chinese Banks is useless outside China since very few merchants accept CYN via Union Pay.
