Group Name on Text Messages went away

Why can't I add a Group Name to Text Messages threads anymore? I was able to do so previously. I know this because within one of my currently ongoing text threads, I found the following statement, "You named the conversation "Troop committee". Mon, Mar 7, 11:30am. The very next statement reads, "You named the conversation "Troop Committee". Mon, Mar 7, 11:31am. Could this inability to name Group Text Messages be related to the updated IOS 9?

This is a terrible "enhancement" that group names in Messaging went away. I have several committees of names that I need to group together so that I don't have to enter each of their names every time when sending a text. Not all of them have iPhones. Please bring this feature back!!!!!

It didn't go away. It has only ever been available if all members of the group are using iMessage.

Create a group text. Tap on the (i). You will see a spot that say Enter group name.

1. Make sure everyone in your group text has an iPhone.

2. If your answer is yes and you still can't name the group. Double check all the phone # are cell numbers.

I made this mistake. Everyone in my group all use iPhones. What I didn't realize is that added someone's work number instead of their cell.

you can't name a group MMS conversation, you can only name a group imessage conversation - all users have apple devices.

I just double check this on my phone, group message with an android user - details - there is no option to name group.

check group imessage - details - I get the option to name group.

and no this has nothing to do with ios 9

How hard is it to allow me simple have a named list of phone numbers that autopopulates? I certainly could be "fussing" at the wrong people, but memorizing a list of phone numbers for convenience hardly seems like a significant technical challenge. I guess what I'm saying is I am not convinced that you are correct that Apple is somehow constrained.

You have never been able to name a group SMS/MMS message within the iPhone. You have been able to name and make other adjustments with iMessage, like adding and removing users. If you are not convinced that I am correct, you are more than happy to use the links at the bottom of the page and contact Apple to ask them. It will not offend me in the least bit. I am just telling you what I know about how it works.
