Q: iMessage not working properly! Please help!

Hey there,

 

First time iPhone user here. My iMessage was working perfectly and then all of a sudden started sending through my email. People are asking me who I am and why it is sending through my email when it used to be my phone number. Did a bunch of troubleshooting through Google and this site and cannot find my answer.

 

So when I go into settings>messages and hit the send & receive button my email is highlighted and my phone number is greyed out while having a loading icon to the left of it (spinning circle)

 

How do I get my number back!?
