I know this is an old post, (and I'm reading through the full thread currently) but i did the same thing. I asked two of my coworkers, on different days, and different models of iphone. They are having the same issue. I'm fairly confident that IT IS NOT A HARDWARE ISSUE.  Didn't start happening until recently when i updated my phone from 9.2 to 9.3.2  I just recently upgraded to 9.3.3. Thought the issue was fixed. NOPE! still doing it. Very weird to say at the least.

    Outcast,

I would tend to agree with you if I didn't have 3 other Iphone 6's in my house that are running 9.3.2 and having absolutely no issues along with several friends and coworkers running the same version.  Also, the suggestion in this and other posts to slightly twist the phone from each end was the primary temporary fix for the faulty phone in my case.

I still believe it's a hardware issue with a certain percentage of devices.  The problem with Apple putting that on the record is the overall cost of bad PR in the press vs just upsetting a smaller number of existing customers. Bad press loses existing AND new customers.

makes sense. Just hard to argue that it didnt start happening for either of us until just recently. And i sort of believe that it could be a combination of both. The different devices I spoke about was 2 different iphone 6+ with one being purchased just this past February. So i know she is still in warranty. The other one is my 6+ that was purchased last May. And a iphone 5s.

Also i understand some people will legitimately have hardware issues, but why is it that some can just revert back prior to 9.3.x and not have a problem at all? I can do the hard-reset option and mine will work for awhile then quit. I'm going to try to get into the settings and disable the fitness tracker and see how that goes also.

    Hi

Solution found. The Genius Bar of Paris Opera has proposed a replacemeant for around 300€.

It is a know default. And the story to get to a solution was long, with different steps which I underlined below.

I remind the default: screen would be irresponsible in a random manner (I could not access to my boarding pass in an Airport) or would activate by itself (eg it called a friend on its own)

Step 1: Apple chat and forum: all were recommended various solutions which all would improve the issue but for a limited time.

Step 2: Genius Bar at Carrousel: A diagnostic is made. Default found and characterized. As my phone is more than 1 year and less than 2. The solution is a replacement. However I denied the replacement as I had a 2 year warranty from my operator ORANGE and that ought to be for free.

Step 3: ORANGE has been a nightmare. I sent several times my iPhone with all explanations, diagnosis from Apple, videos showing the default but every time it came back basically having done a reset or cleaning my screen. All of us know this would not fix the issue. I had to go through tons written and certified letters (you must avoid any oral chat or basic email exchange) including making complaints to the customer service at Bordeaux.

Finally they authorized me to make the replacement directly with APPLE on my own and confirmed by written letter they will pay me back this replacement.

Step 4: I m right now at Apple Genius Bar of Opera with a new iPhone.

At the end APPLE has been ok except for it took time to get the diagnosis (I should have gone earlier to the Genius Bar). ORANGE is a nightmare and keep my complaint for doing the job instead of them and losing so much time with different services on the phone and their inefficient repair service.

    Bon courage á tous.

I had this problem with my iPhone 6s many, many months ago (almost a year ago actually). I am surprised that more people are seeing this issue now! First things first, this is not a software issue. It is definitely a hardware problem. Don't bust your head about software upgrades. I can assure you that it is not a software problem.

In my case, I took it to the Apple store and had a technician look at it. The technician had to replace the screen on my phone and then the issue went away. It occurred again after a month or two and when I took it to the Apple store again, they just replaced it (If i remember correctly, at the time, my phone was under Applecare).

The symptoms of the problem are this...

It starts with a flickering grey bar on the top of the screen. It starts off with occasional flickering at the top of the screen (covering the status bar at the top of the screen). During this time, when the grey bar appears, the screen becomes unresponsive. It does go away after a while. The screen then becomes responsive again. If you don't deal with this issue immediately (i.e. take it to the store), the flickering grey bar starts to cover larger and larger sections of the screen (as well as persists for much longer). Eventually, your phone becomes practically unusable as the screen flickering will happen as soon as your screen comes on.

tl;dr: The flickering grey bar is due to a hardware problem and not due to software. As soon as you encounter this, take it to your nearest Apple store. If you are covered by Applecare, you are lucky and your phone will be replaced. If not, you will likely have to shell out big bucks to get your phone screen replaced.

    Hope this helps.

Lots of new articles about this issue in the last few days.  Just google touch disease.  Gizmodo has the original article about it.

IPhone this to settle but not a long term solution.. Apparently your phone was being bend.. What i do is i bend my phone alittle (not breaking it) backwards. This goes well but will come back time to time.

long term solution is to go store, and request to change due to bend.

    hopefully it helps u
