Q: pioneer bdr-208dbk el capitan

I have a late 2009 imac with an external pioneer bdr-208dbk drive. Since I installed El Capitan, the external usb drive has stopped being recognized and I cannot play dvd's or read or write dvds or cds on it. Toast seems to find it but finder does not recognize blu ray discs or dvds so i cannot read or write at the moment in toast.

I tried the csrutil disable in recovery mode but drive is still not recognized.

Sys info sees it under disc burning but not under external drives.

Toast sees it and I can eject and close disc tray but since the computer doesnt read any discs, I cannot get toast to read or write anything.

Has anyone figured this out? I have seen many posts with similar problems but no solutions that work for me.

thanks! any help would be fab!
