Q: Not enough space on disk to Partition: Windows Bootcamp

iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, Late 2015)

Processor: 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory: 6 GB 1867 MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 1536 MB

OSX Version: 10.11.4

I've tried to download windows for my iMac. I've bought the full version via USB for it. I've followed these instructions: Create an ISO image for Boot Camp from Windows installation media - Apple Support to create my own ISO image. I've done that, and I've ejected the "WINDOWS10" disk image like it told me too.

When I go to download the support software and partition the disk, it will get past the Windows Support Software download, then about halfway into Partitioning the disk, it will say "The disk does not have enough space to be partitioned". (P.S) The image "BOOTCAMP" will show on the desktop before it says the message, and then will go away and the message will occur.

I've repaired the disk and defragged it. I've put 300 gigs for the Partition, that's plenty. I'm not sure what's going on.

I've also went into Disk Recovery and repaired it that way.

I'm on the forums before I decide to call Apple.

Thank you.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

I'm not sure if that's Fusion.

If this is not what you're looking for, please be more specific.

Please post the output of the following OS X Terminal commands.

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

Regarding the ISO, you can directly download a 64-bit only ISO from Microsoft - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/home . Thsi should usually be in your Documents folder and preferably not mounted. Running BC Assistant 6.x will prompt you for the location of the ISO. 2014 Macs will create a USB Installer, while 2015 Macs will use an internal partition called OSXRESERVED - contains the Windows installer.

I have the correct ISO, from the official Windows USB Installer.

I'll get those outputs to you soon.

It can be challenging/problematic creating an ISO from the USB. If you do run into any issues, that should be the first thing that needs to be looked at. Microsoft has a combined 32-bit/64-bit installer on the USBs, while the ISOs are individualized 'bit-ness' files. BC Assistant will not handle mixed 'bit-ness' ISOs.

P.S) When I download the 64-bit ISO from the Microsoft Website, I just download it and put it as the ISO for Bootcamp? I don't do anything else with it but use it? (Just asking, so I know if I need to format or anything.)

Please respond with any other things I may need to do, and If not I will use the main 64-Bit ISO from the website.

    1. Yes, just use the ISO from the website. You do not need to re-format it any way. Please use a wired connection, if possible. Wireless connections have a tendency to corrupt the ISO download. Microsoft does not provide MD5sums for the ISOs, but if you are familiar with the Terminal command openssl md5 , you can post the MD5sum for verification.

    2. Try to boot in Safe Mode - Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support - and then boot normally and try BC Assistant steps.

    3. If that does not work, boot into Internet Recovery - Command+Opt+R (not Local Recovery - Command+R) and from Utilities -> Terminal, run diskutil repairDisk disk0 command. Please post the output (using a photo/image from the screen).

If you still have an issue, please post back with any error messages.

Hm, when I put the 64-Bit ISO file in the box, and I choose how many GB's I want, blah blah, I hit Install and it says "Boot Camp only supports 64-bit Windows 8 or later installation on this platform. Please use an ISO file for 64-bit Windows 8 or later installation."

    Should I use Windows 8?

    Or just 32-Bit all together?

On 2015 Macs, you can only install W8.1 or W10. W7 is not supported. If you are using the correct 64-bit only ISO, please run the following two procedures and retry.

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

The issue persists. It keeps saying the same thing when I try to put in the ISO Image.

I've tried to one you download from the website, and the one from the USB.

    What is the problem?

I've reset the NVRAM and SMS already.
