Post a picture of your issue and describe your setup. Is this the first time used or did it work and suddenly stop working?
It's 2nd generattion.
Ok picture was a help. Solid light on Apple TV means it is running and should put out picture. Message is from TV.
Try stepping through this under the blank screen section:

WELL....Glory be! I found the little booklet/pamphlet that came with the Apple TV! On Page 31 it says to "Hold down both Menu and Down on the Apple remote until the Apple TV status light blinks rapidly." I did that, and that's exactly what happened. Then it said to "Disconnect Apple TV from the power outlet, wait about five seconds and then reconnect it." I cannot possibly do that due to how large the TV is and where it's located. But I just waited while I had a blank screen for a short time, and then VOILA!!!! It worked!!! Apparently it's like it was resetting itself. Whatever it was , it did the trick. I thank you for being there and helping me through this!

Those books come in handy. You did reset it.
If you ever need to unplug the power from the Apple TV, you can pull the cord out of the back of the Apple TV. It comes out.
No need to get to wall plug.
