Q: upgrade from osx 10.9.5 to 10.11.4

Attempting to upgrade from 10.9.5 to El Capitan 10.11.4 the system tells me it needs 10.11 - not mentioning which release, and in addition I am not able to find any location that allows uploading an interim version.

Copyinfg the installation app from  my MBook, whihc I upgrades months ago, results in an error message (probaby defective or altered copy of this app....)

What can I do?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

From memory (not at my Mac at the moment): when you open App Store, you should land in the Featured section. In the column on the right, there should be a list of popular items, including El Capitan.

Okay - finally the download worked, the machine is installing now. Obviusly all previous downloads were corrupted.

Now I'm really curious what's going to work and what not.

But for now: You made my sunday!

    Many Dankeschön!

This is true, but brings you to the same App store window and looks as if it was the 1011.4 Updater.

    However, it is perhaps not.

So, if not biased my experiences, everyone else will download and install the new version without hassle...

    Thx again.

Sierra won't install on my early 2008 Macbook Pro so I want to upgrade from Mavericks 10.9.5 to El Capitan 10.11.6.  I checked the App Store and El Capitan is no longer there but I was able to download 10.11.1 from this page: Download OS X El Capitan 10.11.1 Update

The problem is that according to this pageupgrade from osx 10.9.5 to 10.11.4 I have to upgrade to 10.11 first and El Capitan is no longer in the App Store. Does anyone know where I can download El Capitan 10.11 now?

    Thank you.

Here is a link to an Apple Support document with the link to El Capitan, the version you download is 10.11.6

which is the latest version, it is the full installer.

Upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

You had previously been downloading updates to El Capitan, where you would have needed an install of El Capitan

    first.

    Thank you very much!

    I have another question, please...

Do you think I should upgrade from Mavericks 10.9.5 to El Capitan or stay with Mavericks? The reason I'm asking is because I read someone saying that Mavericks would be better than El Capitan on an early 2008 Macbook Pro. My machine has only 6 gb's of RAM so I'm also wondering if one operating system allocates RAM better than the other?

    Thanks again.
