Q: Final Cut Pro X/ Startup Disk

I'm having trouble making my movie in Final Cut Pro X because it says my startup disk is almost full/full. I've deleted all videos, pictures, and files off of my macbook but it still says it's full. Is there any other way to increase my storage? Please help ASAP. Thank you.

P.S. I'd prefer not to download any software from the App Store to increase my memory.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Click the Apple icon uppermost left on your Toolbar. Click About This Mac and then click the Storage tab. Take a screenshot of the report for the start-up disk and post it for us to see.

    Thanks.

Did you remember to "Empty Your Trash"?

Simply deleting something only moves it to the Trash Folder, but does not actually delete anything. You will not gain any space on your drive until you actually "Empty Trash".

Open you Trash icon and see if anything is in there. Select all and then Empty.

You can also right click on the icon and empty the trash.

Make sure nothing is in there you want, because it is really gone once you Empty the Trash

While you are at it, check your Downloads folder for items you want to Trash.

Also some programs like Photos, Mail and others have their own separate Trash Folders which have to be deleted separately inside those apps, not via the system Trash.

Always a good idea to have around 25% free space on any drives.

The best and easiest way to do this is to use external drives for storing your media files. IMHO this is almost always a better way to edit.

    Hope this helps, Greg

You already got two good answers, but for the future you really need to consider an external drive. Drives are inexpensive these days, and video take hundreds of GB or TB before you know it. Any decently fast USB3 drive will do.

Just in case it was overlooked, when you start clearing up data because you see About this Mac>Storage full (or get the message that it is full), you then have to restart your Mac and then check About this Mac>Storage again. Only a restart will reflect the actual storage change in About this Mac.

Check to see if you have any kind of preferences to "automatically download" any data from something like a cloud service.

I've put all my movie projects and photos onto a flash drive and deleted them off my mac but nothing has seemed to change.

If you drag them to another drag you are COPYING them, not moving. Did you delete them AND empty the trash?

Reviewing this thread, I'm unsure whether you're still trying to resolve this disk space issue. If you are, download this (very good and safe) utility, which will tell you with specificity what files are taking up your storage space and their location.
