I can't copy a .vob file video from a dvd to my iMac

I have a video that was burned to a dvd from a video camera and cannot figure out how to copy it to my i Mac's hard drive. When I look in Finder at the file in my external dvd drive it says the movie is a .vob file. How do I copy it to my Mac and which El Capitan program should I be using?

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

If it is a proper DVD made by yourself it will be unprotected so you can copy the contents. The contents should be a folder called VIDEO_TS and inside that folder should be multiple files. While the .VOB file are the most important and are the actual video you can copy the entire VIDEO_TS folder to the Mac and play it using the Apple DVD Player application either by dragging the VIDEO_TS folder icon on to that application or by running it and selecting open from the File menu.

You could also use the free Handbrake program to convert the DVD to a more computer friendly format, again if it is an unprotected DVD which is what should be the case if you burned it yourself from a camera.
